Scarves

During 2014 I made my first nuno felted scarf and I've been hooked from that moment on.  I love the combination of glimmering silk and warm merino that this medium affords.  At this time I also became what can only be described as obsessed with the cave paintings of Lascaux and Chauvet. I wanted to re-create the feeling and atmosphere of these caves. I found I was able to use my materials in a really delicate, and painterly way that suggested the forms of the animals in motion.

Below are a selection of my creations. Please hover the cursor over the image for a brief description or click on the orange Etsy logo below to be taken directly to my Etsy shop.

Merino wool, silk chiffon, mulberry silk, tussah silk, rose fibre. My aim was to capture the painterly feel of the cave art and the texture of the walls as well as conveying the atmosphere of the hunt.

This luxury nuno felted scarf was inspired by the cave paintings of Lascaux in France.

I used gorgeous merino wools, mulberry silks, tussah silks and rose fibre in this piece. This scarf is double sided and can be worn in a variety of different ways.

The Nuno Felting Process. Thin layers of wool and silk are used to 'paint' the image before wet felting commences.

The image is built up in thin layers of wool and then hot water and soap are added as I begin the wet felting process.
