Printing has been used throughout the world and since the dawn of civilisation, from hands printed onto cave walls to the beautiful and elaborate woodblock printed textiles of India. Block printing is a fascinating method of applying pigment to fabric and the possibilities are endless.
All my designs are initially cut into polystyrene for practice printing, in order to ensure that the pattern works dynamically on a larger scale. after some adjustments, the design is then lovingly carved into a permanent block. Each block may take up to eight hours to produce. The beauty of hand printed textiles is that they breathe life into a home. Variation and minor inconsistencies can only enhance the beautiful nature od something that is hand made and therefore wholly individual.
